The Last Time They Met A Novel Anita Shreve Books
"The Last Time They Met" is the story of Linda and Thomas and unfulfilled love. The book tells the story of two teenagers who find themselves as soul mates, yet are separated due to choices that are not their own. The story is told from the adult point of view and describes their meetings as adults, but even though their love is still strong, conditions never allow them to be truly together. The beginning of the book was good and kept my interest, even though I found it disjointed. People and situations were mentioned and I would feel like I had dozed off and missed some relevant info explaining who or what was being referred to, but eventually an explanation would be given. I found this frustrating.
I actually skimmed through the middle of the book, it was bogged down with poetic descriptions that weren't really relevant to the story. The last 75 pages did make me glad I had not given up and not finished the book. The end, which left me wondering, I liked. I believe that Ms. Shreve could have made a more interesting book by leaving out the majority of the months in Africa.

The Last Time They Met A Novel Anita Shreve Books Reviews
Shreve never disappoints. I want to consume these novels in one gulp. This is one that gives a new perspective each and every time you re-read it.
Anita Shreve knows how to craft a creative novel, with almost lyrical prose. THE LAST TIME THEY MET is no exception.
Linda and Thomas, poets and former lovers, are reunited at a writer's conference decades later. I don't want to say too much, to give away plot twists or spoil the book.
I thought the second section of the book, twenty-six years before the first, was less compelling than the first, but the third section more than made up for he middle part.
I love Anita Shreveport but struggled to get through this book. I found I did not care about the characters. The time hopping and the ending seemed disjointed.
Read this for book club. Waited two weeks to give it a ranking, and I’ve already forgotten the entire book other than that I didn’t like it....That should tell you something.
Well, I just finished this book, literally moments ago. What a surprising ending. A bit in shock actually! I highly recommend it!!
As usual, I love Ms Shreve`s style of writing and I did feel very connected to these characters. But, for such immersion and depth and a long, internally and emotionally complex story to be resolved and conclude so abruptly, so suddenly.....I mean, I get it, but it felt like the author just suddenly ran out of steam. I felt somewhat cheated.
I loved, loved this book--so much so that soon as I finished it I started it over again. Like most of the late Ms. Shreve's stories, this one isn't comic. But it is gorgeous, a brilliant piece of literary legerdemain. The last couple of sentences are indelible, among the most exquisite I've ever read.
