Highland Surrender Tracy Brogan 9781612186962 Books Reviews

The book starts off with the heroine being forced to marry the enemy (and former ally) of her families clan. She believes that leader of that clan raped and killed her mother, so you can see why she wouldn't want to marry his son. Her brothers force her to marry him anyway, threatening to marry her little sister to the man in her place. Of course she agrees.

What follows from there is every man the heroine comes across being seen as an enemy. Her husband forces her to sleep with him, and she feels violated by the act. Throughout most of the book the heroine is whining, melancholy, and depressed about her situation. Her new husband couldn't care less. All he wants is to touch her even though it's obvious everything about him disgusts her.

I think I'd be okay with the whole Enemies to Loves thing that the book has going on, but never once does the author give us something to like about her husband. Apparently he'd wanted to marry some French chick who let him have sex with her (because they both thought they'd get married) and the when he marries the heroine all he can think about is bedding her.

Maybe it's the language the author chose but the heroine can't feel complete disgust and hatred towards her husband and the acknowledge that little piece of her attracted to him. The extremes are two far apart and it makes the book maddening because I feel complicit in her suffering.

I got as far as the husband forcing the heroine to kiss him for bath water before I had to just put the book down.
Highland Surender is a good intriguing read with it's suspense. One finds themselves being drawn into the story and is never sure of the outcome until the last chapter. A nice romance surrounded with history and well developed characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and it's interesting characters. More involved in story than description of surroundings. I look forward to more books by this author. Wanted the story to continue and not end. I Wanted more of Fiona and Myles and John and Gen.
. I wish Tracy Brogan would write another medieval romance. Seriously, I couldn't put this book down. Fiona Sinclair is married to Myles Campbell by order of the King who wants the clans to make peace.. She believes that her mother was murdered by a Campbell and makes Myles miserable but she eventually realizes he's a good man. Myles and Fiona are faced with scheming relatives. He has relatives who want to overthrow him and become the laird. Meanwhile, her brother is scheming against the King. The end is a big surprise.
I purchased this book on a whim--have been in the mood for a historical romance, and coincidentally came across Highland Surrender, searching through 's historical romance section. It's one of my guilty pleasures. )

The plot was exactly what I was searching for, two families and a history between them. It's more interesting when there is a feud between the two and then they learn that the other is not so bad. Okay, you are probably cursing my name right now, because that sentence alone gave the whole story away, but for those historical romance lovers, you should already know that most romance novels do so. There is no big secret there, it's predictable in that sense, but the whole journey to that point is what makes it fun and enjoyable! And, did I have a great time!

The characters were full of dept--our female lead, Fiona, feisty, stubborn, yet sensitive--our male lead, Myles, strong, also stubborn, and has every charm to him. The supporting characters did not lag behind,--each one holding their own, Robert, Myles' Aunt, James, and the list goes on. You just know Tracy Brogan put in thought to her supporting characters, and that's what I loved most about this book. Oh! And, most importantly, there were no dull moments. I will be keeping track of Tracy Brogan's works and I cannot wait to try her other books.

If you love a witty female protagonist and the highland-type reads, check out Tracy Brogan and let yourself dive into one of her books, you'll get lost in the time period, and will not regret it.

I rate this book a 4.5 out of 5. Plenty of saucy love and plot twists that will put yo on edge. (In a good way of course!)
This is your traditional stubborn bride forced into marriage to bring about peace. Myles Campbell was a great Hero although I wish the author would have showed him more protective. While he was honorable I like when scenes show the H showing his protective, alpha side. Fionia Sinclair is oddly familiar as it was the same name from the book I read before this one, however, the last h was shy and lame where this one is driven by anger and pure old fashion stubbornness. I do agree with another reviewer who said she carried it on further than necessary but when she finally buries the hatchet it was a sight to behold. Another reviewer said there was too many graphic sex scenes I disagree. I believe with all the action, deception going on it was well balanced. There were only like 3-4 that remember and some was skimmed over. Fiona's brothers were unbelievably cruel and that includes John. In the beginning john actually strikes her a crossed the face before the two knuckle heads send her off with their sworn enemy. There is more to it but one thing was for sure they were not concerned with what happened to her. The author had a beautiful way of pulling you in the story with memorable characters that you don't want to leave. Enjoy!
